In our country, banks appeared not so long ago, which is why the service was created “from scratch” and is therefore more developed than in other countries. For example, Russians, unlike residents of many other countries, can boast of “instant transfers” and https://telegram-store.com/catalog/product-category/channels/economics, while in Europe, for example, this should take up to several days. However, even we have situations where the bank is not completely fast. This is due to the “banking day”.

How does a bank day work?

On the one hand, it’s simple. Many offices open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. But it’s simple, as long as you don’t remember that it works across 11 time zones. Therefore, we can distinguish several modes of operation of banks:

  1. Business day. The most common option, when it is open exactly the branch of the bank. Just the time of operation minus weekends and holidays is called a “working day” at the bank.
  2. Banking day. Here it’s all individual for each company. For example, if the bank opens at 9:00 am – this does not mean that all transactions and contracts can be performed at this time. Usually, all these activities can be performed only from 9:30. The same with the end, which is about half an hour before the offices close.
  3. Operating Day. An outdated concept that referred to the gap between two banking days when transactions were performed. Now all processes have become more automated, so “operating day” has become synonymous with “banking day”.

But in addition to internal orders, all banks are subordinate to the Central Bank of Russia, which also has its own working hours. And it is easier to deal with it, because the work plan of this structure has long been approved:

  • preparation for the start of work – from 23:00 of the previous day until midnight (Moscow time);
  • preliminary session – from midnight till 01:00 (also Moscow time);
  • regular payment system session – from 01:00 to 21:00 Moscow time. This is the period of the payment system as a whole;
  • the standard period of regular sessions – from 01:00 to 20:00. During this period the system accepts non-urgent transfers for execution during the same day (i.e. from 20:00 to 21:00 Moscow time orders are accepted only for the next working day);
  • paper and electronic orders are accepted by territorial branches of the Central Bank no later than 10 a.m., and are finished no earlier than 12 p.m. local time;
  • the final session is from 21:00 to 22:00 Moscow time.

Here you can see that between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. the bank is officially “not working”. Actually – this is the “operational day” and all the banks under control also do not work at this time. However, some of them may extend this regime.

Important! Operational day does not apply to transfers within the bank, as they are made automatically.

For example, VTB conducts its internal operations from 23:00 to 1:00, but the interbank only operates until 19:00.

Tinkoff has a period of interbank payments from 07:00 to 21:00. At the same time, internal transfers are carried out without restrictions 24 hours a day.

What do you need to keep in mind?

First, some of these restrictions depend directly on the bank and the client’s status in it. For example, until recently, “round-the-clock” Tinkoff was available only to residents who bought an advanced usage level. Such a feature is now still available in some other banks. But even this mode leaves limitations:

  • the payment is a transfer to a deposit account;
  • the transfer goes to a salary or social project for a physical person;
  • the transfer comes from a special account;
  • the recipient of the transfer (in the same Sberbank) has not agreed to conduct operations on weekends.
